1. The Airbus A380 is designed to fly for 140,000 hours – meaning it could fly around the world more than 2,000 times in its lifetime.

2. Only 20 runways in the world are now fully capable of handling A380 aircraft. Others are not long or wide enough or not technically equipped for A380.

3. The A380 is the largest civil aircraft in history with maximum take-off weight of 1235klb. It weighs 560 tones. One A380 is 72,7 meters long; this is a little bit less than two A320 in the same lane. 80 meters is the length of the wingspan of the A380. This plane provides you with an opportunity to see the clouds from 200 windows. 6,000 engineers and technicians have worked on the programme development. 10,000 bolts are inserted inside the fuselage to hold all the 3 main parts together.

4. Many believe that A380 is the largest plane in the world. It is not! There is one more airplane called Antonov An-225, it is larger than A380.

5. More than 3600 liters of paint is required to paint the exterior of the aircraft.

6. On 10 January 2006, the A380 made its first transatlantic flight to Medellín in Colombia.

7. In September 2014, Aerion partnered with Airbus (mainly Airbus Defence) to collaborate on designing the Aerion AS2, a supersonic 11-seater private business jet, hoping for a market entry in 2021.

8. Singapore Airlines were the first to obtain the world’s largest commercial passenger aircraft. The first flight, with 450 passengers, was made from Singapore to Sydney. The Sydney Airport authorities spent $128 million to upgrade its infrastructure for super jumbo jet’s arrival. Infra, skilled manpower needed to sustain aviation sector growth: Jayant Sinha

New Delhi:- India needs infrastructure and trained manpower to sustain the growth of its civil aviation sector, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said on Tuesday. "Land for airports development" and skilled manpower are required to sustain the growth being witnessed by the sector, he said at an event here to launch skill development initiative for aircraft maintenance engineers (AMEs). The initiative comes after a report submitted to the Civil Aviation ministry highlighted that 72,900 technicians and AMEs will be required by the industry by 2035. However, aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation's data showed that only 3,644 basic licenses and only 159 type rated AME licenses were issued in the last five years. On an average, eight AMEs are required for maintenance of an aircraft. This figure assumes significance in the light mega aircraft orders that have been recently placed by domestic airlines.

Air India puts on hold leasing of 787-9 planes, says Boeing

New Delhi:- Air India has put on hold plans to lease Boeing 787-9 planes amid the government's decision to divest stake in the airline, a senior official from the US aircraft maker said today. Air India Boeing also said it would honour commitment to Air India , which is expected to take delivery of six more planes from the aircraft maker this fiscal. When asked about Air India's plans to induct 787-9 aircraft, Boeing Commercial Airplanes Senior Vice President ( Asia Pacific and India Sales) Dinesh Keskar said those are on hold now. Air India has put on "hold" plans to lease Boeing 787-9s because of government's plans to sell stake in the carrier, he said here. Earlier this year, the airline's board had given its nod to induct seven Boeing 787-9s. Boeing 787-9 planes can accommodate up to 290 passengers.
