This Airline treats women differently.

Vistara initiates a special plan

In a first, the New-Delhi based airline Vistara is trying to bank on some show of chivalry and start offering help to solo women fliers with its newly launched 'Woman Flyer service'

Reverting to old-school ways
Vistara would aid women fliers traveling alone with their luggage, escort them to and from ground transportation, and give them exclusive window and aisle seats on their flights. The airline says the service is gathering popularity rapidly with around 75 to 100 women using the complimentary service each day.

India a no-go for female travellers?
By 2019, India is thought to become the world’s sixth-largest business travel market, but the problems for India’s tourism flow directly from cultural issues around gender inequality and baseless stereotypes in Indian society.

Also, with its infamous reputation of being unsafe for women— particularly since the brutal 2012 gang rape in Delhi, the country might well lose out to both tourism and business inflow.

Ensuring womens' safety
The airline initiated the unique plan after noticing several women seeking help after their planes had landed. Vistara said the service is to prove the airline's sincerity in attempting to ensure peace of mind of their women customers.

Reserved transports are no help
In efforts to combat sexual assault and harassment on public transit, officials have tried offering separate, reserved transports for women and children.

While women-only transportation zones have shown some success and proven popular among some passengers, they’ve also been criticized for implying that women must be segregated in order not to be harassed and labeled as essentially ‘short-term fixes’.

Vistara to show the way
Vistara hopes to extend its new service for women to international flights once it expands outside of India.

In May, the airline, which flies an all-Airbus A320 domestic fleet, was seeking to recruit pilots trained on Boeing Co. aircraft—a signal the carrier is considering leasing or buying Boeing jets for longer-haul routes outside the country.
